God’s Response When We Trust Him

God’s Response When We Trust Him

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation”
(Psalm 91:14, 15, NKJV)

This is the psalm which the Devil used to tempt Jesus. After taking Him up into the holy city, he set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone’” (Psalm 91:11, 12; Matthew 4:5-7, NKJV).

He conveniently left out the preceding verses which say, “Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling…” God’s response to our faith and trust in Him is to protect us from any evil or pestilence. He gives His angels charge over those who trust Him.

The Devil tried to tempt Jesus into testing God when he told him to throw Himself down so that the Father would give His angels charge over Him. Jesus countered this temptation by quoting the Scripture which says, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God’” (Matthew 4:7). He didn’t have to prove anything to the Devil. He trusted in His Father who was His refuge.

Never allow the Devil or anyone to tempt you into testing God. Just set your love on Him and trust in Him at all times. Call on Him when you are in trouble and He will deliver you. The Devil went away after all of his temptations failed and the holy angels were dispatched to minister to Jesus (Matthew 4:11; Mark 1:13). We have this blessed assurance, The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them (Psalm 34:7, NKJV).
