Stood Up

I’m waiting outside of the library.  There are a few people milling about.  People passing by paused to snap photos of the “Hippo Ballerina”.  I can’t understand why it’s here.  To me it’s an eyesore.  Apparently, it was created by Danish sculptor Bjorn Okholm Skaarup, inspired by Edgar Degas’ sculpture “Little Dancer Aged Fourteen,” and the dancing hippos of Walt Disney’s “Fantasia.”

I’ve been waiting for twenty minutes now.  Where was Neil?  I called him.

“Hello?”

“Where are you?”

“Tamara?”

Where are you?”

“I’m–”

“Neil, darling,” a woman’s voice called.

“Who’s that?” I demanded.

“It’s–”

Incensed, I ended the call.
