A cousin of Ginger, Turmeric is a spice that has been used for centuries, particularly in traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. “Turmeric contains compounds called curcuminoids, which have been shown to have many health benefits” says Jordan Anthony, MS, RDN and Director of Nutrition at Ahara. “It has an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect however turmeric is poorly absorbed in the bloodstream so it’s best to pair it with something called pipeline, which can be found in black pepper. This increases the absorption by 2,000%. Some research has shown it can alleviate or reduce symptoms associated with joint pain” Anthony continues.
