“Dorthea, we’re having company for dinner,” Mrs. Kyriaku informed the housekeeper.
Dorthea paused from her baking. “Who’s coming, Ma’am?”
“Thaddaus and his girlfriend.”
“Mr. Thaddaus has a girlfriend?”
“Well, he’s dating her.”
“I think it’s nice that he has a steady girlfriend.”
“It won’t last.”
“Why not?”
“She’s Gambian not Greek.”
So what? Dorthea thought as she returned to her baking.
